general iphone questions before buy

Assalamou 3alaykom wa ra7matou ALLAH

now it's my first try to switch from imate kjam to
iphone,and after visiting the iphone section here in the
forum, i found that there is a lot of questions just to know
more about iphone before buy it, so plz any help here will
be appreciated
.

if i got iphone 2g can i upgrade it to 3g
2g and 3g are they different as hardware parts
what is the difference btw latest iphone and the coming release, is it hardware or just firmware or OS
what is cydia
what is pwdin
firmware update is the same as os update or not
.

plz i need some answers here even if small but informative answers.

3 - More powerfull hardware, as well the OS 3.0 will be faster on it

thank you aboabo50, very appreciated, i think i will go to buy a 3g iphone, do you suggest any additional information before i buy it, or do you think that whatever is the 3g version that i will buy, i can unlock it and update it to the latest os and applications

Don't buy!!!

The new iPhone will be announced next week. I would wait if I were you.

يفضل ان يكون الجهاز مفتوح رسمى من ابل اخى الكريم

وللتاكد انه مفتوح اطلب من البائع ان يريك الاتى, من اعدادات الايفون:
Settings - General - About - Model

وابحث عن رقم الموديل وقارنه بهذا الجدول من صفحة ابل:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937

وانظر فى تحت خانة الجدول:
Locked to carrier

اذا رايت علام صح فهو مقفول
واذا المربع خالى - فهو مفتوح رسمى من ابل

Ask from where you will buy the iphone to give you or show
you the iphone model number

It can be found by going to this from the iphone:
Settings - General - About - Model

Take the model number and compare it with this page
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937

Under the box in the column table where it say
Locked to carrier
If there is a check mark then it locked - not recommended to buy
If it empty then it officially unlocked from factory - Recommended to buy

It good to buy unlocked iphone, you will not need to worry regarding update and a like

thanks aboabo50 i will look for it, i think they sell it here unlocked anyway, but i have no problem to dive into unlocking and updating, i already have a big experience in unlocking imate device and updating os.....and actually i'm going to buy the iphone for the sake of practicing and enjoy the new gadget applications, and for the announcement of the new iphone model next week, i think i will pass it and go for the 3g now, for the reason that the new model need at least 2 months to be available here in lebanon, and it will be more costy than a current 3g, but for now i can buy 3g and enjoy the iphone world and applications

if you wait till the new iphone annoced, logically the current 3g will get much cheaper than it is now

i can get the 3g for around the 2xx$ is that a good price, i'm still not sure, but my friend told me that he can provide me one for this price
